According to the High Commission for Planning, unemployment stood at 9.5% in the second quarter of 2026, down from 10.8% in the first quarter.
Be careful when comparing with previous years: this figure comes from the new Labour Force Survey (EMO 2026), which measures the working population differently from the former national employment survey.
Gaps remain wide: 11.9% in towns against 5.4% in rural areas, and 27.2% among 15 to 24-year-olds.
