Consumer prices rose by only 0.5% between September 2025 and September 2026, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
This modest figure hides two opposite movements. Food is cheaper than a year ago (-2.5%), while non-food products rose by 2.8%, driven by transport (+9.4%).
Over September alone, however, the index jumped 1.0%, with sharp increases in meat and vegetables (+4.3%) and fuel (+2.0%). This is often what households feel day to day, more than the annual average.
Core inflation, which excludes the most volatile prices and state-regulated tariffs, stands at 0.6% year on year.
